Plant germination is process by which an embryo becomes a seedling and the seedling gradually develops into a plant.  The process entails the regeneration of the metabolic passage that enables the growth and gradual emergence of the plumule (or the shoot) and radicle (or the seed root). Seed germination begins when the radicle bursts open the seed coat and comes out to signify the formation of a young root. The first process of germination is denoted by imbibation, when the seed absorbs a lot of water. Water penetrates the seed coat and softens the dry internal tissues.
